Idea
How much do you love it?
Imagine it’s Valentine’s Day. You pop into a “Burger King” because you’re craving a Whopper. But today, the ordering terminal has an extra feature: it measures your pulse at your fingertips. Because you love the burger so much, your heart beats faster just at the sight of it. Bingo! The faster your heartbeat, the more Whopper discount you get.

Input
Sensors
The prepared terminal looks like the neighboring order terminals. The most noticeable difference: two blinking hand icons on the sides inviting users to place their fingertips. Two XD-58C heartbeat sensors on the index fingers measure the pulse and determine the more reliable of the two readings. An Arduino board evaluates the measurements and communicates the pulse to a MacMini.

Output
Backend, display and printer
The values are received by a Node server, which prepares them for the Vue frontend. Additionally, a Flask server in the backend provides a page to "orchestrate" the measurements and reactions for filming purposes. If the measurement is successful, the MacMini communicates back to the Arduino board via serial interface. The board then writes image data for a coupon to a small receipt printer.
