Task
Four-legged friends on camera
People are easily detected by object recognition algorithms. But what about dogs? Can OpenCV and others find animals in camera images? And if so, how reliably? I tested this together with the agency dogs in a large experiment.

Test setup
The well-trained classifiers at the time of the test were Faster RNN, Yolo – You Only Look Once und SSD Detectors, which we pitted against each other in a large, high-profile test. Each of the three algorithms offers its own balance of speed and accuracy, which we aimed to determine.

Free treats for all!
I set up the test in the middle of the agency to provide colleagues with some thought-provoking material. For the people, the day offered valuable inspiration and attractive Instagram content for "Bring Your Dog to Work Day." As a small extra, there was a treat machine for the four-legged friends.
