Hospital VR Prototype – Make future innovation tangible with Virtual Reality

01

Lead Question

How do you make a future innovation feel real today?

Recently, two high-profile local companies from medical and materials tech collaborated with creatives from the Cross Innovation Hub to co-create the intensive care room of the future, addressing the critical issue of multi-resistant germs in hospitals. It featured two distinct ideas. - An interactive assistant that guides hospital staff in efficiently and safely cleaning devices and surfaces. - A protruding wall design hiding complex medical equipment behind an easy-to-clean flat interface.

Tech Choice

To deliver a quick, compelling visualization, I developed a simple VR prototype with location-based interactions. The idea was to keep the experience minimal and intuitive to suit the fast-paced showcase setting. Audio guidance paired with interactive elements that responded to user movements helped create an engaging demo.

Platform

Quick Prototyping Meta Style

Ultimately, I opted for one of Meta's most basic tools: building a Meta Horizon World using the in-device version. What I discovered: - Meta has designed an intuitive 3D development user experience. - Creating in-glass 3D became genuinely fun. - The end-user navigation experience is straightforward and simple. Getting feedback from visitors at Cross Innovation Day was extremely valuable. It showed how impactful VR prototyping can be in communicating innovative solutions.
